How to stay hydrated

We all know that it is important to stay hydrated in order to stay healthy. But it can be hard to remember to drink water when we are busy.

Dehydration is a condition that occurs when the body loses more fluids than it takes in. It can be caused by fever, vomiting, diarrhea or excessive sweating. The most common symptom of dehydration is thirst. Other symptoms include dry mouth, dizziness, muscle cramps and dark yellow urine.

The main cause of dehydration is not drinking enough fluids to replace those lost through sweat or other bodily fluids. Many people don't drink enough water during the day because they are busy at work or school and forget to drink water during their break times.

How to stay hydrated

  1. Water: Water is one of the best and easiest and cheap way for staying hydrated. Water is very important for life. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. One should definitely drink lot of water everyday. 
  2. Oral Rehydration Solutions. i.e. ors are very useful for staying hydrated. A good ORS has sodium, glucose, electrolytes etc. 
  3. Low fat milk: Low fat milk can be used for staying hydrated.
  4. Fruits: Fruits are very useful for staying hydrated. e.g. oranges, grapes etc
  5. Vegetables e.g. Cabbage, spinach are good for staying hydrated.
  6. Wear light clothes that absorb sweat
  7. Avoid caffeinated drinks like coffee and tea
