Psoriasis: An Introduction

Psoriasis: Psoriasis is a common, chronic skin disease. It is basically a immune-mediated disease which can cause inflammation in body. It cause the cells of the skin to multiply very faster than the normal and accumulates in the surface of the skin, causing the red, scaly itchy patches. Though it can grow anywhere in the boyd but most commonly we have seen in the practice are they appear mostly on the knees, elbows, scalp, palms, soles, lumbo sacral areas etc. 

Types of Psoriasis:

Guttate Psoriasis: In this, sudden occurence of tiny bumps on the skin. The bumps are basically pink coloured, small, scaly and sometimes clear in few weeks or months but it can also occur for life. There is also the possibility that the Plaque psoriasis may also develp  when the patient develps guttate psoriasis. 

Plaque Psoriasis: In this, there are thick ptaches, plaques of varying sizes may occur and sometimes the smaller plaques join to form larger plaques. If the patient scratchs the patches, the patches become thicker. 

Inverse Psoriasis: It is also known as Flexural psoriasis and intertrignous psoriasis. In this there are inflamed, red and shiny type of the skin, skin is painful or sore. 

Postular Psoriasis: In this the bumps are filled with pus and occur on smaller parts of the body such as the hands and feet. Skin is red and swollen, skin is painful. If occur in feet, walking is very painful . 

Erythrodermic Psoriasis: This is a very serious type of psoriasis. In this there may occur fever, chilliness, muscle weakness, very severe type of itching, skin looks as if burnt or sunburned. This type of psoriasis may be life threatening.

 Acne is a skin condition in which the hair follicles under skin are basically clogged. The pores of the skin gets blocked by the hair, sebum, bacteria's and the dead skin cells.
